Victoria may be Australia's smallest continental state, but Melbourne, its capital, is big on everything. With a population of 4.25 million people living in 59 separately named communities within 715 square miles, Melbourne is a sprawling city offering culture, art, fashion and friendly, sports-minded Australians. It is also an easy city to explore. At the heart of the city is the Golden Mile, the city's governmental and commercial center, home to hotels, shops, restaurants and theaters. Originally part of New South Wales, Victoria became a colony in its own right in 1851. The discovery of gold propelled Melbourne's growth to prominence and prosperity.
This evening the ship will depart at 10PM.

Adelaide
Today you arrive at 7AM. Founded in 1836, this graceful city lies nestled on the coastal plain between Gulf St. Vincent and the Adelaide Hills. Adelaide was the vision of Colonel William Light, Australia's Surveyor General, who created a one-mile-square grid for the city's center and surrounded it with a belt of stunning parkland. Today, Adelaide is a metropolis of over one million people, boasting wide, tree-lined boulevards, superb Victorian and Edwardian architecture, tranquil parks, world-class shopping, and the highest number of restaurants per capita of any city in Australia.
Beyond the city and the rugged Adelaide Hills lie the Barossa and Eden Valleys. Here Australian vintners are winning international acclaim for their Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz.
Departure is set for 6PM.

At Sea
Albany
Today you arrive at 7AM. On December 26, 1826 - Boxing Day - Major Edmund Lockyer and his party of convicts and soldiers landed at Princess Royal Harbor to establish a penal colony. Originally named Frederickstown in honor of the Duke of York and Albany, the first European settlement in Western Australia was renamed Albany in 1832. Thanks to its superb harbor, the town quickly became a busy port. Albany served as a coaling station for steam ships, as a commercial outlet for the rich farms of the interior, and as a base for the highly profitable whaling industry. The whaling station at Frenchman Bay was the last whaling station in all Australia, closing in 1978. Today it is home to Whale World, one of the world's largest whaling museums.
This small city of some 25,000 souls is off the beaten track. Which makes exploring all the more fun, whether visiting Whale World Museum or touring one of the area's excellent wineries.
Departure is set for 4PM.
Margaret River (Busselton)
Today you arrive at 9AM. This vibrant coastal city is a laid-back charmer with an enticing array of natural wonders and active pursuits. Just steps from the mile-long Jetty are glistening white sand beaches and sun-drenched seaside villages. Yet the magic of the Margaret River area beckons with 120 premium wineries; ancient caves boasting a subterranean world of jaw-dropping stalactite, stalagmite, helictite and shawl formations; a fascinating Aboriginal culture rooted in ancient history; and a picture perfect landscape of meandering country roads and spectacular scenery.
Note: This is an anchorage port. Passengers transfer to shore via ship's tender. Wheelchair Access Limited.
Perth
Today you arrive at 7AM. Lying at the mouth of the Swan River, historic Fremantle - founded in 1829 - is your gateway to Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Situated on the banks of the Swan River some 15 miles upriver from Fremantle, Perth is a bustling city where soaring high-rises co-exist with elegant sandstone buildings from the colonial era. Life here moves at a slower pace, so during your visit, relax and savor the bounties of Western Australia, from the wonders of the bush to the wineries of the Swan Valley, from excellent shopping to a leisurely cruise on the Swan River. Perth's explosive growth in recent decades has engulfed the old historic port of Fremantle - some 70 percent of Western Australia's population live in and around Perth.
Departure is set for 5PM.
Geraldton
Today you arrive at 7AM. The capital of the Batavia Coast was founded in 1850 as a commercial port serving the Northampton lead mine some 30 miles to the north. While Geraldton remains one of Western Australia's major ports, the city has become a magnet for vacationing Australians. Located between the Chapman and Greenough Rivers, Geraldton boasts a superb Mediterranean climate, scenic beauty and pristine beaches. Coronation Beach has become an international destination for windsurfers. In 1692 the Dutch East India Company Batavia was shipwrecked on the offshore Abrolhos Islands. Calamity was followed by mutiny and murder. The lurid tale ensured this portion of Western Australia would be named the Batavia Coast. Note: Geraldton is an anchorage port. Passengers transfer to shore via ship's tender. Wheelchair Access Limited.
At Sea
Today you will arrive at 7AM. In the 1870s, pearl fishermen discovered the rich waters of Roebuck Bay. A decade later, Broome was founded as a base for the pearl trade and was soon described as "the pearling capital of the world." Japanese, Chinese and Aborigine divers toiled in arduous, dangerous labor to harvest oysters from the seabed. For all its importance to the pearling industry, Broome remained a remote outpost on Australia's Kimberley Coast until its discovery as a travel destination. The legacy of its pearling days can be seen in the town's colorful mix of 19th- and early 20th century buildings. Broome also boasts Cable Beach - a 13-mile strand of white-sand that stretches along the azure waters of the Indian Ocean.
Pirate William Dampier was the first European to visit Western Australia. Dampier, who circumnavigated the globe three times, landed near Broome in 1688 and again in 1699.
Kimberley Coast (Scenic Cruising)
Located in the northern part of Western Australia, Kimberley is one of the continent's earliest settled regions, dating as far back as 40,000 years. But although its mainland has been inhabited for centuries, its over 8,000 miles of ruggedly beautiful coastline remain so unspoiled that the Kimberley Coast has been identified as one of the least impacted marine environments in the world. Healthy reefs and incredible biodiversity make the Kimberley Coast a prime spot for marine wildlife viewing, from sea turtles to blue crabs, manta rays and the planet's largest population of humpback whales. Approaching the Kimberley Coast from the Indian Ocean, you'll make out dramatic red cliffs that stand out in stark contrast to the aquamarine waters of the fringing reefs below. More than 2,600 islands are scattered beyond the reefs, serving as nesting grounds to a variety of seabirds, including cormorants, giant Australian pelicans and Red-footed Boobies. The islands also provide breathtaking scenery in one of the world's most extensive coastal wilderness areas - and the best way to take it all in is from the sea!
At Sea
Darwin
Today you will arrive at 7AM. Closer to Indonesia than to any other Australian city, Darwin is the capital of the "Top End" - the remote, vast Northern Territory. Home to more than half of the territory's population, the city reflects the rugged endurance and individualism required to survive the Outback. Darwin also boasts a colorful history to add to that heritage. During World War II the Japanese bombed the city and threatened invasion. In 1974, Cyclone Tracy cut a destructive swath through the region. In addition, man-eating crocodiles, tropical monsoons, searing heat and bush fires that burn for weeks are all part of everyday life. Locals in the Top End consume over 60 gallons of beer a year. All those empties don't go to waste: Each year Darwin residents compete in the Beer Can Regatta, a race with boats, rafts and other vessels manufactured out of beer cans.
Departure is set for 10PM.
Port Douglas
Today you will arrive at 8AM. In 1877, the aptly named James Venture Mulligan struck pay dirt on Hodgkinson River, igniting the fabled North Queensland Gold Rush. At the height of the boom, Port Douglas boasted 12,000 residents and 27 hotels. Bust inevitably followed boom, and Port Douglas slid into decades of obscurity. Then came a second gold rush in the 1980s as tourists flocked to the North Queensland Coast. Located between the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and the Great Barrier Reef, Port Douglas provides a perfect gateway to hardy adventurers en route to rainforest and reef. In addition to its nearby scenic wonders, Port Douglas boasts several resorts ranging from the Sheraton Mirage to the Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa in the heart of the rainforest.
Note: Port Douglas is an anchorage port. Passengers transfer to shore via ship's tender. Wheelchair Access Limited.
Departure is set for 6PM.
Cairns
Today you will arrive at 7AM. Cairns is one of Australia's hottest vacation destinations. Cairns boasts three of Australia's great natural wonders. Just offshore, immense bastions of living coral form the Great Barrier Reef. Sixteen miles of superb beaches stretch to the north of the city - the famed Marlin Coast. And inland lays the immense Daintree National Park. Cairns itself basks in tropical sunshine, balmy breezes waft in from Trinity Bay. The city's graceful, tree-lined esplanade was once the gateway to the gold fields of North Queensland. Cairns graceful, tree-lined esplanade was once the gateway to the gold fields of North Queensland. A travel tip - Cairns is pronounced "cans."
Willis Island
This tiny island measures in at just 1,600 feet long by 490 feet wide, though it is the only permanently inhabited island in the Coral Sea Islands Territory. You won't find any neighborhoods, schools or homes here, however. The only structures on Willis Island comprise a weather monitoring station hosted by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, where just a handful of weather observers reside at any given time. Willis Island is one of several tropical islands sitting beyond the Great Barrier Reef in the Coral Sea Islands Territory, and is surrounded by thriving reefs where many creatures make their homes. Numbering into the thousands, Willis Island itself caters to many species of seabirds, including Masked, Brown and Red-footed Boobies that cry out nearly 24 hours a day. It is also an important nesting ground for turtles. Note: Willis Island is a scenic cruising site. Ships will slowly travel past while a knowledgeable port lecturer points out significant sites you'll be able to see from onboard.
Brisbane
This morning you will arrive at 8AM. Once considered the "country cousin" among Australian cities, Brisbane is today the nation's third-largest metropolis - and one of the most desirable places to live in the country. Lying on the banks of the meandering Brisbane River, this cosmopolitan city boasts elegant 19th-century sandstone buildings, a lively cultural scene and superb parklands. Brisbane is also your gateway to uniquely Australian adventures, be it the theme parks of the Gold Coast or Queensland's dazzling beaches. The beaches south of Brisbane form Queensland's Gold Coast.
The ship will depart at 5PM.
This morning you will arrive into Sydney at 6AM and disembark for your return home or an onward journey.

Australia Circumnavigation Cruises
Want to go on a cruise around Australia? That's a "circumnavigation" cruise. Surprisingly, there aren't a lot of these "circle Australia" cruises available. It's a long voyage, and that limits the number of people who have the time to take it. All of the options are listed below.
Australia's major cities are on the coast, so a cruise round the continent is a natural way to explore. The cruises typically depart from Sydney and include stops at Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Darwin and more. Often they go to Tasmania and Bali too.

Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Royal Princess
We are a couple who joined two other couples chose this cruise because it started and ended in Auckland NZ. We have done around 20 cruises including three half world cruises over 30 years from Ponant to Paul Gaugin through Cunard, Sun Line, Carnival, P & O (UK), Princess and Celebrity. At 3000 passengers it was the largest ship we had been on (our other cruises were all on 2000 or less ... Read More

Review for a South Pacific Cruise on Grand Princess
This was the worst travel experience of my life. It was our first time on a cruise and certainly the last with Grand Princess. This cruise is suitable for 60 year olds and above only. The cruise itself is extremely outdated! I wouldn’t even say it could pass as a family cruise. 1 of the 3 stops they made over the 2 weeks was an industrial area. We even did a tour and didn’t even see much at all. ... Read More
Review for a South Pacific Cruise on Majestic Princess
We've cruised to the Pacific before and we have cruised with pre-pandemic Princess so this will be both an honest and (hopefully) informed review. Overall I feel Majestic Princess hits its mark as a premium cruise line. There are some little oddities with the ship, primarily as a result of its designed for China past. I'll deal with those issues first. Yes it would be better with a wake pool; ... Read More
I chose this cruise as I wanted to return to cruising after a long break with health issues and the pandemic. It offered an opportunity to revisit some ports which I hadn't seen for about half a century at a reasonable price. It was a good time to go, as it was outside school holidays, although the time of year meant that in the tropical locations visited there was a strong possibility of ... Read More

Recently returned from our 13N Majestic Princess Sth Pacific cruise 10-23 Feb Sydney roundtrip. It was our first Princess cruise since 2017 & our 3rd cruise for the 23-24 season. I make some points: - Embarking was very fast & we were soon on the ship after shuttle drop-off around noon, having a light lunch in the buffet before dropping our carry-on in our cabin. - We had ... Do not take the cruise to NZ starting and ending in Auckland. We just got back (the 2025 date is for next year obviously). We went 2024 February. Got to the airport and Princess has organized a taxi. This was extremely awkward as the guy told us how poor he was a lot and we felt we needed to give him a tip ( this was our fault). Embarkation started around 11am and was efficient. The room ... I would never recommend this cruise ship to anyone. We joined this cruise to celebrate our special wedding anniversary - this is our 7th cruise - but unfortunately its all about money and not passengers. Our towels in cabin were not changed for 6 days - apparently the laundry couldnt cope with daily changes. The cafes food was the same for 14 days, tables not cleared when passengers left - ... Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Grand Princess
Positives: (1) we were on board within a half hour of arrival to the the pier. (2) my dh and i won 2 trivia contests which had actual prizes-bottles of champagne (3) the princess app on the phone was easy to navigate. (4) dravuni, fiji cruise port is outstanding and saved this cruise from being a zero. Negatives: (1) no ac in our cabin for 3 days in the hot south pacific. Impossible to have a ... Read More

As the weather inches toward warmer and the months flow into spring, we’re thinking about one thing and one thing only: vacations .
The notion of setting sail in opulent blue seas aboard a massive, state-of-the-line ship simply sounds incredible. Better yet, cruises are becoming more and more luxury leaning, with massive silhouettes and all-inclusive amenities that are newfound additions to signature fleets.
Enter the newly debuted Sun Princess . Dubbed the next-level “Love Boat,” this gorgeous new ship has joined the namesake of Princess Cruises and has made her maiden voyage on Feb. 28.
RELATED : Best cruise lines we reviewed
“ Princess Cruises became a household name as the setting and ocean-going co-star of ‘The Love Boat’ that featured over 950 celebrity guest stars,” John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises, exclusively told the New York Post. “The show has been widely credited with introducing millions of viewers to the concept of contemporary cruise vacations and leading to the dramatic expansion of the industry and its global success.”
Since that infamous TV show’s opening sequence with a timeless theme song that to this day precisely describes the Princess brand DNA, Princess Cruises has been connected to and is synonymous with “The Love Boat.”
Sun Princess
“ Sun Princess offers the greatest assembly of culinary experiences from celebrated chefs and celebrity collaborators, as well as ingredients from high-end purveyors and a lineup of exciting new experiences,” Padgett told The Post.
Standout options include Spellbound by Magic Castle, which blends the captivating world of magic with the art of culinary and mixology to create an immersive dining experience, and Makoto Ocean, which reshapes traditional sushi with a creative approach by James Beard Honoree Makoto Okuwa.
“Beyond the setting of the show, the original cast members have participated in the Princess brand to this day, including two ship christenings – Dawn Princess (1997) and Regal Princess (2014), appearing on the cruise line’s Rose Parade float and sailing on a throwback cruise in 2015 all celebrating the lines 50 th anniversary,” Padgett explained.
“In May 2018, the six original cast members of ‘The Love Boat’ and Princess Cruises received an honorary star plaque on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of their contributions to the history of television and support of the preservation of the Walk of Fame.”
An overview of the food and dining experiences on the Sun Princess
Ahead, find a premium assortment of dining options aboard the Sun Princess . Upon booking, you’ll have unlimited access to both buffet and sit-down dining, while some additional dining destinations are offered on an a la carte fee:
- The Butcher’s Block by Dario : This is a specialty restaurant from the world’s most famous butcher, Dario Checchini, grilling up perfectly prepared beef and steak, including Cecchini’s signature cuts.
- The Catch by Rudi : This is a luxe exceptional dinner concept from renowned chef Rudi Sodamin showcasing treasures from the sea.
- Love by Britto : a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Princess partnered with world-renowned artist Romero Britto to create Love by Britto, an artistic-inspired dining experience celebrating the essence of “Love” aboard Sun Princess.
- Kai Sushi by Makoto : Here, the Master of Edomae-style sushi, Chef Makoto Okuwa, presents a new concept of crafting playful, exquisitely presented dishes paying tribute to Japanese traditions. After showcasing his skills on Food Network’s popular “Iron Chef,” Chef Okuwa has been recognized by the prestigious James Beard Foundation. He also spearheads popular restaurants in Miami, Brazil, Mexico City and Panama.
One of the most unique experiences the ship offers is The Dome, a geodesic, glass-enclosed structure at the top of the ship inspired by the terraces of Santorini. “The Dome is also the backdrop for the incredible artistry of one of the biggest names in entertainment – Cirque Éloize – coming to life by presenting three original, contemporary acrobatic performances,” Padgett said.
Another unique feature is the outward and suspended Sphere. “The namesake of this new class of ship takes the central Piazza hub of the ship into a new dimension,” he highlighted. “Here guests can take in expansive ocean views, sunrises and sunsets. Being a premium global cruise line, guests are able to see some of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders including glaciers and icebergs while drinking coffee, having a meal or enjoying entertainment.”
Speaking of entertainment , Sun Princess boasts the pinnacle of technological innovation in the world of cruise ship entertainment with the configurable Princess Arena that supports shows in the round, in a 270-degree keyhole configuration, as well as via a traditional proscenium theater.
“Additionally, guests can enjoy our largest casino in the fleet, a two-story Lotus Spa, and an expanded retail environment with over 200 premium brands,” Padgett pinpointed. “The retail space also includes several firsts at sea including an upscale showroom dedicated to luxury horology showcasing TAG Heuer and Breitling and more than 25 new brands available to cruise guests like Italian handbag brand, Pinko and athleisure favorites Beyond Yoga and Varley.”
How does Princess differ from other cruise lines?
A standout feature of Princess at large is its implementation and use of its MedallionClass service , which began in 2017 and was completed fleet-wide in 2022.
“ MedallionClass service is enabled by patented and proprietary technology that gives Princess completely unique capabilities to deliver an individualized and personalized service at a big ship scale,” Padgett detailed. “There have been other vacation brands including cruise, theme parks, all-inclusive options and casinos that have attempted to replicate these unique contactless on-demand real-time dynamic location-based service capabilities, but none have succeeded.”
MedallionClass service is available on every ship in the Princess fleet because the Princess service promise is universal and not dependent on any physical ship vintage or configuration. “When it comes to exceptional service, Princess guests never have to worry about what ship they are sailing on within the fleet or where that ship is in the world because all ships are guaranteed to offer the exclusive Princess MedallionClass experience,” he noted.
If you’re a frequent cruiser, you know the *struggle* of traditional credit card-style IDs. With the Medallion, you can cruise a bit more conveniently, whether accessing your ocean-view stateroom or buying a watermelon martini at the bar.
What other Princess cruises should I consider?
Princess has a fleet of 16 ships that sail to 330 ports around the world , including sailings to the Caribbean, Alaska, Panama Canal, Mexican Riviera, Hawaii, and two World Cruises, one that leaves from Australia and one from the United States.
“This April, we are celebrating our 55th year sailing to Alaska and bringing more people to experience this extraordinary land,” Padgett said. “And for our guests in North America, we have sailings from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Galveston, Port Canaveral (Orlando), Ft. Lauderdale, Boston and New York providing exciting new voyage options that guests can conveniently access from major drive markets.”
What’s more, we’ll be sailing on the Discovery Princess in April 2024, a Pacific Wine Country tour to San Diego; San Francisco; Astoria, OR; Victoria, Canada and Vancouver, Canada.
What to know as a first-time cruiser, according to an expert
“First-time cruisers need to know that cruising is an easy, convenient way to travel,” Padgett said. “You unpack once and experience the best of the region you are visiting in one cruise vacation.” Simply put, there is nothing easier than simply waking up in the morning in the world’s most exciting and interesting cities.
On top of that a cruise vacation provides an incredible value. “Your cruise fare includes accommodations, dining, entertainment and an endless array of activities and ‘transportation’ to a variety of destinations featured on each itinerary,” Padgett added. “With packages like Princess’ Plus and Premiere, guests have maximum options and superior value with the inclusion of drinks, daily gratuity, Wi-Fi, fitness class, specialty desserts and specialty dining.”
Not to mention, the Sun Princess is the newest and already highly adored ship worth considering for your next vacation.

Oceania wants travelers to live on its new luxury cruise ship for 6 months while it sails to 43 countries. A trip starts at $60K — see what it'll be like.
- Oceania announced a 180-day 2026 world cruise from Miami to 101 ports, starting at $59,700 a person.
- The premium cruise brand tapped its new luxury ship, Vista , for the 43-country itinerary.
- Oceania's 2024 world cruise set sail in January after it sold out in 30 minutes.
Oceania Cruises wants you to spend at least $59,700 — and 180 days — living on its newest cruise ship while it sails 360 degrees around the globe.
And if the itinerary's bookings are anything like the company's previous global sailings , this six-month cruise could sell out — fast. Bookings for this cruise officially open on March 13.
The brand's around-the-world itineraries have become wildly hyped over the last few years. In January, its most recent world cruise on the fully booked Insignia departed from Los Angeles on a similar 180-day, 96-port journey.
When reservations opened two years prior, that ship was sold out in 30 minutes. Oceania is a high-end brand of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
Looking ahead, Oceania’s 2026 global itinerary is set to be bigger, better, and on a newer ship.
The premium cruise line has frequently picked the 684-guest Insignia as its world cruise vessel of choice.
But this time, it's switching "ship" up: The company has tapped its newest vessel, the 1,200-guest Vista, for its 2026 itinerary. And it won't be a light trial run: The sailing is set to include 101 ports across 43 countries — and the cruise line says tours will hit 81 UNESCO World Heritage sites .
On January 6, 2026, Oceania says the Vista will depart Miami and spend the first six weeks sailing to destinations along the coast of South America.
The ship would then head back north to ports in Mexico, Southern California, and Hawaii before chugging along to South Pacific islands like Bora Bora.
From there, the itinerary includes several ports in Australia.
After these stops, the ship would head north and west, continuing to destinations like Singapore and Mumbai as it sails from Southeast Asia to India.
From the world’s most populous country, the Vista would then journey to Middle East destinations like Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Muscat, Oman.
After sailing through the Suez Canal, the ship would begin hitting a series of ports throughout the Mediterranean, Europe, and the British Isles.
And following a few stops in Iceland, the Vista would finally begin its journey back to North America.
After pit stops in Halifax, Canada, New York, and Charleston, South Carolina, the half-year journey would finally conclude where it started: in sunny Miami.
Whew, what a journey!
Throughout these six months, travelers would get to live out their “Suite Life on Deck” dreams.
The new 791-foot-long Vista flexes cabins that start at 240 square feet.
Seafaring guests could spend their days at sea luxuriating in the ship's spa and library.
Folks who prefer to occupy their time with more hands-on activities can instead take cooking and art classes.
Oceania says its culinary program and “destination-focused” itineraries are its bread-and-butter.
The latter has already been covered: The 2026 world cruise is set to hit 101 ports, after all.
As for the former, Oceania's Vista could have enough restaurants to satisfy even the pickiest of foodies.
The almost one-year-old ship has 11 dining options, from afternoon tea to dishes created by the ship's godmother, celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis.
Guests could spend their mornings grabbing an espresso at the coffee shop.
And at night (or any time: it's five o'clock "somewhere" when you sail through every time zone, right?), guests can sip on flashy bourbon and rye-based cocktails at the Founders Bar.
Six months at sea isn’t for everyone. But for some travelers, the itinerary’s starting cost of $59,700 per person could be an absolute steal.
Planning a multi-country trip can be complex: Think of all the hotels, flights, and land transportation you'd have to coordinate.
But on a world cruise, these logistics are all planned for you. Oceania's fare also includes first-class roundtrip flights and transfers, internet, and laundry.
The best part?
You'll probably lose fewer pairs of socks on a world cruise versus a do-it-yourself vacation: No need to unpack and repack every few days when you'll be living in the same cabin for the entire vacation.
